Building GuideGround Level -- First FloorThe lower level of Grasselli Library and Breen Learning Center houses the Periodicals Collection. The library subscribes to more than 2000 titles. Current issues are in Grasselli. They are arranged alphabetically by title on display shelves that overlook the Kelley Reading Garden. Older issues are bound and arranged by call number in the Breen wing. Service is provided at the Reference Desk in Grasselli, second floor. The Audio-Visual Material Center is adjacent to the Periodicals Information Desk in Grasselli. Videos are on open shelves arranged by call number; CDs are arranged by categories. Listening and viewing equipment is available in adjacent study carrels. These materials must be taken to the Circulation Desk on the second floor to be checked out. The Interlibrary Loan Office is located next to the Audio-Visual Materials Center. The Interlibrary Loan staff processes requests for materials JCU users wish to borrow from other libraries and lends JCU materials to other libraries who make requests. The Microforms Collection is also adjacent to the Audio-Visual Materials Center. The library has a number of current newspapers on microfilm including the Plain Dealer, the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. There are also a number of historical collections in various micro-formats including the Early American Imprints of the American Antiquarian Society, the Landmarks of Science collection and some Vatican materials. The library has an extensive microfiche collection including many United States government documents and ERIC publications since 1990. Inquiries should be made at the Reference Desk on the second floor of Grasselli. The University Archives is housed on the library's first floor. Access to the materials in the Archives may be arranged through the Archivist whose office is in this location. The Archivist is also the person to consult about Government Documents. The Eleanor Bongorno Room serves as the library's staff lounge. The room was named for long-time staff member Eleanor Bongorno who died in 1996. She was a staff member for several years in the early 1940's when the library was on the third floor of the Administration Building and spent nearly thirty years as a part-timer from the late 60's up until several months before her death. The Mackin Room is in Grasselli at the eastern end of the front corridor that connects to the Breen wing. This large lecture room is used for classes and meetings. Seminar Rooms A and B are in the corridor near the Mackin Room. Restrooms, telephones and a photocopier are also available off this corridor. A snack area with vending machines is found near the entrance to the Breen Learning Center. A newer addition to Breen is Aramark's Java City. Fresh coffee, smoothies and bakery items are available here. Java City connects to the Kelley Reading Garden, a pleasant place to read or study when the weather is cooperative.
