Building Guide

Main Level -- Second Floor

Visitors enter Grasselli Library on this level.  The Circulation Desk is to the left and the Reference Desk is directly ahead.  Cataloging and Acquisitions are to the right and through the door into the Technical Services Room.  Approval plan books are on display in this area.

The Circulation Desk is the station where users check out and return library materials. Students must have a current valid university ID to check out materials. This is also the place to look for materials that have been placed on Reserve for course assignments, Interlibrary Loan materials, and other items On Hold. A terminal dedicated to the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) is located at this location as well. Additional terminals are located in the breezeways entering Breen on each level.

There is a photocopier room off this same corridor. The photocopier room also houses a change machine.

The Reference Desk is directly across the lobby from the entrance.  Librarians are available here to answer questions or to consult about research projects.  A Ready Reference collection of frequently used reference sources is located in the bookcase directly behind the desk.  Periodical Holding Lists are also available at this desk.

Directly behind the Reference Desk are twelve computer workstations which have access to the Library LAN and to the World Wide Web over the Internet.  Several of these workstations have access to individual stand-alone CD-ROM products including a number of U.S. Government Document databases. Our list of Electronic Databases in Grasselli Library & Breen Learning Center is a browsing list of databases available in various subject categories. Additional workstations are available in the Computer Commons overlooking the Kelley Reading Garden. The Compute Commons is outfitted with 38 workstations and three laser printers.

The Reference Offices are located in the glassed-in suite at the rear of the Reference Room.

The Reference Collection is also housed on this floor.  Print indexes and abstracts are in the area directly behind the computer workstations.  Business reference items including Annual Reports are housed in the LoPresti Center for Business and Financial Information in the glass study room along the east wall.

The Student Multimedia Center along the back wall has several computers with specialized multimedia software, including an Apple workstation, a scanner, and a color printer to provide assistance for students preparing classroom presentations.

The library director and administrative assistant have offices off the corridor to the right of LoPresti.  The administrative assistant is the person to consult about use of rooms within the library and student assistant hiring.

Circulating books with call numbers A thru G are in the Breen wing on this level.
