JOURNAL AND SEARCH ALERTS

Journal Alerts

Do you want to know when your favorite journals publish new issues, and on what topics? You can create and manage alerts for all the periodicals indexed in the Electronic Journal Center and in the Ebsco databases.

The easiest way to set up an alert is to know whether the full text is in the Electronic Journal Center (EJC) or in Ebsco. To find this, go to the Articles & Data tab on the library homepage and click on the A to Z List of Grasselli Library Online Journal Subscriptions. This is a link to another web site Type the journal name in the box. The full text availability will be listed below. Often, the full text is in more than one place. Many titles have "embargoes" in Ebsco databases, meaning that there is a time lag before current issues appear in full text. The EJC does not have embargoes. Be sure to look for coverage that indicates "to present."

If the journal is in the Electronic Journal Center (EJC), follow these instructions to set up journal alerts This is a link to another web site and to create a free account.

If the journal is in an Ebsco database, select the database of your choice from the A to Z List results. It will link into a screen with publication information for the title on the right and a volume and issues list on the left.

Click on Alert/Save/Share on the left side of the green bar.  A box will appear prompting either to "Create an Alert" or to"RSS iconCreate an RSS feed."  Select "Create an Alert." Either create a login at this point or login to your account. A "Create or Edit Journal Alerts" form will appear, asking you to choose options for your alert. Read each option carefully so that your alert will be exactly how you want it.

Search Alerts

Would you like to save a search and be informed by email when new results are added to it? You can do this in the Ebsco databases. It is a great tool for a research paper. Begin early and add results automatically throughout the term. Then, when you've finished the project, delete the saved search.

Go into an appropriate Ebsco database. Construct your search. Add elements as needed. When you are satisfied that your search is hitting the results you want, click on Alert/Save/Share on the left side in the green results bar. You will be prompted to create an account or to login. Then a short pre-populated "Create or Edit Saved Searches" form will appear. Click on the radio button for Alert at the bottom and the form will expand, giving options for alert frequency, timeframe for the alert to remain active, and preferences for results format. Complete the form and your alert will become active!

To view and manage alerts you have already set up, sign in to Ebsco and go to the Folder on the blue top menu bar at any time.
